December 14, 2011
Rabigh, Saudi Arabia – The Emir of the Eastern Province, HRH Prince
Muhammad Bin Fahd Bin Abdulaziz, honored with his presence a day of ceremonies on
December 13 in Al-Ahsa in which President and CEO of Rabigh Refining & Petrochemical Company (Petro Rabigh) Ziad S. Al-Labban signed a Letter of Intent between the company
and the National Industrial Training Institute (NITI).
HRH Prince Muhammad laid the foundation stone for the NITI, a joint
project of Saudi
Aramco and the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC), with Al-Ahsa
Governor HH Prince Badr Bin Muhammad Bin Jalawi, Minister of Labor Adel Fakieh,
TVTC Governor Dr. Ali Bin Nasser Al-Ghafis, NITI Chairman Mohammed Al-Omair, Saudi
Aramco President and CEO Khalid A. Al-Falih and other dignitaries in attendance.
NITI Complex is an independent, not-for-profit training institution, located on
365,000 square meters of land along Airport Road in the town of Al-Hofuf. Construction
work is due to begin within weeks and the site, which will contain housing for 1,000
trainees and a range of leisure and social facilities, is scheduled to be fully
operational in 2014. The NITI’s first intake of trainees is expected in March of
that year.
Designed to take up to 2,000 Saudi trainees, the institute will provide training
in a broad range of technical areas including gas, oil and petrochemical operations,
machine technicians, health, safety and security.
The signing of the Letter of Intent with the NITI comes as part of Petro Rabigh’s
commitment to develop the national workforce, an essential element for the diversification
of the national economy and the sustainability of its industries. Cooperation with
the NITI will see Petro Rabigh-sponsored trainees qualify in a variety of skills
prior to on-the-job training and later full employment with Petro Rabigh.
Located on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, Petro Rabigh was established in September
2005 as a Joint Venture between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical of Japan. It
is the largest integrated refining and petrochemical complex ever established at
a single point in time.
With its vision to be globally recognized and locally committed, Petro Rabigh presents
an opportunity for greater diversification of the downstream conversion industry in the Kingdom while keeping to its objective of providing opportunities for private
local investment in petrochemical related industries and creating jobs to boost
the local economy.
