an indispensable aspect of modern life; as an industry, they represent opportunities

Located in the Red
Sea town of
Rabigh
, about an hour’s drive north of Jeddah, the Petro Rabigh petrochemical complex
aims to capitalise on these opportunities, and in doing so firmly establish
Saudi Arabia
as the global hub for the burgeoning petrochemical sector.
Launched in September
2005 as a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and
Japan
’s Sumitomo Chemical, the US$10 billion Petro Rabigh plant is the largest integrated
oil refinery and petrochemical production facility ever built at one time, and one
of the most sophisticated plants of its kind in the world.
By converting oil products
into petrochemical commodities, Petro Rabigh will help pave the way for a boom in
conversion, manufacturing, retail and countless related industries. This diversification
will, in turn, lead to employment opportunities for Saudis and make a significant
contribution to the country’s GDP.
